CD Won’t Play National Anthem, So Teenager Grabs The Mic And Saves The Day

January 31, 2017

It was during a high school volleyball match. Everyone was standing for the national anthem, then it happened: The CD player wouldn’t start. One of the players, Marina Garcia, immediately sprang into action.

She grabbed the microphone and began to sing. No one knew she had a voice like that.

“We were about to stand for the national anthem as we noticed that the CD wasn’t working,” Garcia told KSAT. “I didn’t feel nervous. I felt like excited because I get to sing.”

Little did she know that someone was recording her quick-thinking performance on camera and that it would soon go viral. The teenager was ecstatic to be able to help.

“I honestly couldn’t ask for more. They all had smiles on their faces. Some of them teared up. Some of them had told me that they had the chills and just that feeling that I can give to people that emotion, that was so exciting,” she said.

Garcia knows the song by heart and it is special to her because she knows so many people who have fought for us to be able to sing it.

“I have family members that were in the military that fought for freedom and just to see other people that don’t understand that is kind of offensive to me but I understand it’s their opinion,” Garcia said.

The volleyball player believes she will remember this moment forever.
