Orphaned Baboon Baby Is So Grateful To Meet Adoptive Mom That She Won’t Let Go

February 23, 2017

Baby Missa, a baboon in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, had a wonderful mother caring for her when she was born.

Unfortunately, Missa’s mother was killed for meat after the birth, and the little baby was left completely alone.

She was so young that she wouldn’t have been able to successfully care for herself; if she had been found, she probably would have been raised for meat as well.

Poachers got a hold of Missa, but luckily, Garamba National Park rangers found her and arrested and charged the poachers. The traumatized baby baboon was terrified, but the rangers knew they could help her.

The Centre de Rehabilitation des Primates de Lwiro (CRPL) decided to take in Missa — a pilot even offered to bring Missa to their rehabilitation center via helicopter.

They didn’t know exactly how they would help Missa, but as soon as they saw how traumatized she was, they came up with a plan.

Missa, a baby baboon, was devastated after her mom was killed by poachers.

The poachers took Missa and would have raised her for meat, but park rangers stepped in to rescue her.

The CRPL immediately wanted to help Missa, so they flew her to their rehabilitation center.

Rescuers realized Missa was struggling to adjust to her new surroundings and her life without her mother, so they decided to introduce her to someone who would make her comfortable.

The rescuers decided to bring Missa to an older baboon named Grace.

The center had rescued Grace from a hotel room where she had been kept in a tiny cage.

Grace and Missa seemed like they would complement each other well — and rescuers were right.

From the moment Grace and Missa saw one another, it was clear they had a bond.

Missa immediately realized that Grace could act as a replacement for her mother, and Grace was happy to take on that role.

Missa rushed to Grace and immediately latched onto her, hugging her tightly.

It’s clear to everyone who looks at this picture that Grace and Missa were meant to find each other.

I, for one, am so glad that rescuers were able to introduce Missa to Grace.
