Parents Share Seemingly Perfect Photo Of 1-Year-Old Twins, Then Reveal Their Struggle For Life

February 4, 2017

On September 23, 2015, Jourdan and Matt Moore were months away from welcoming their twin babies, which a surrogate was carrying for them.

Suddenly, their surrogate went into labor — four months early. Jourdan and Matt feared for their babies’ lives. Most infants are not viable so early, so the parents-to-be were terrified the babies wouldn’t make it.

It had been a long journey to parenthood for Jourdan and Matt. Jourdan couldn’t carry children because she has Crohn’s disease, so they looked to adoption. After learning that traditional adoption could take them ten years, Jourdan and Matt looked into embryo adoption — where couples who have leftover embryos after in vitro fertilization donate their embryos to other families — and their friend Hollie offered to be a surrogate for them.

Jourdan and Matt agreed and were thrilled that they would finally be able to become parents.

When she went into early labor, though, Matt and Jourdan were worried their parenthood dreams would be dashed again. Luckily, Jaxson and Cadence both survived — but had to spend over three months in the neonatal intensive care unit.

Matt and Jourdan documented the babies’ journey on their Instagram account, @journeytominimoore.

In one photo, Jourdan explains what happened when the babies were born: “However, the twins caused complications including placenta abruption which pushed her into early labor at just 23 weeks + 1 day gestation… Jaxson was born at 1lb 6oz and Cadence was 1lb 1oz.

“They remained in the NICU for 98 days and came home on oxygen and monitors. Cadences [sic] was re-admitted a couple of times for complications with chronic lung disease, pulmonary hypertension, and micro-aspiration. Recently the twins turned 1-year-old and are overall healthy little miracles!

“Jaxson is near sighted and wears glasses.” Cadence was also on oxygen and had to wear a helmet for a while, but she no longer needs either.

Although their journey hasn’t been easy, Jourdan and Matt are so happy to have Cadence and Jaxson in their lives. If you had a premature baby, let us know about your experience in the comments! Please SHARE this story with your friends on Facebook!
