This Journalist Studied More Than 500 Millionaires and Came Up With These Intriguing Conclusions

December 13, 2015

About 80 years ago, journalist Napoleon Hill researched and compared the lives of 500 of the wealthiest and most successful businessmen in America. The findings of the study were described in his bestselling book Think and Grow Rich which shares 13 principles that can help anyone become wealthy.

His 10th principle, called “the mystery of sex transmutation,“ suggests that love and passion are key elements in helping you become rich and successful.

Hill writes, ”Passion is the most powerful of human forces. The men of greatest achievement are men with a highly developed ability to love…the men who have accumulated great fortunes were motivated by the influence of a woman.“

Even today, almost half a century later, we keep encountering people who share the same philosophy. “The most important career choice you’ll make is who you marry,” Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, whose net worth is valued at $1.1 billion, once said.

The study conducted by scientists at Washington University in St. Louis has found that having a conscious and supportive partner can significantly increase your chances of getting a higher salary. ”An employee who has an extremely conscientious spouse is 50% more likely to get a promotion than an employee with an extremely unconscientious spouse,” wrote the authors of the study.

Conscientious, wise partners tend to allow their beloveds to focus more on their career. Moreover, people who are happily married generally feel more relaxed at home, which allows them to bring more energy and creativity to their work.

Despite the fact that Hill analyzed only rich men and wrote for a predominantly male audience, he came to the conclusion that healthy relationships are the most important factor leading to financial well-being. Surprisingly, this principle works for both men and women even 80 years later.
